Wrightman backs Croatia to resist the mass market
Tapestry Holidays managing director Nick Wrightman has backed the Croatian tourist chief’s belief that he can prevent the country from becoming spoilt. At last week’s World Travel Market, Croatia National Tourism Director Niko Bulic promised the destination, which has grown in popularity in recent years, would not become “hamburgerised” – a reference to Mediterranean resorts which have catered for mass market British tastes. Many in the industry have been sceptical about Croatia’s ability to resist the cash windfalls that can be gained from welcoming a high number of charter flights, but Wrightman, who is featuring Croatia for the first time next year, believes the country can remain unspoilt. “I actually do believe him,” said Wrightman. “I’m sure there will be some areas which are busier than others, but he seems a man of his word and has been very good to us. “We are featuring Croatia for the first time next summer and I expect it will be very popular with our clients.”
