WTM: Gloria reports back from her South Africa ‘mission’
TV presenter Gloria Hunniford was at World Travel Market in London this week sharing tales of her trip around The Cape of South Africa.
She was one of four celebrities asked to take part in a promotional campaign run earlier this year to promote South African tourism.
The nationwide campaign, called My Mission South Africa, saw Hunniford, Monty Don, Chris Packham and Jamie Theakston taking four particular 'missions' during September to show the diversity of the destination.
Consumers were able to track their experiences on a new interactive website and win a chance to go with them on the trip.
Hunniford, whose Mission was to experience affordable luxury around The Cape, told delegates at WTM: “I loved the people. I was struck by the pride they had in their country and their friendliness. Nothing was a worry.”
During her trip, she took a ride on a Harley along the Atlantic Seaboard.
“The helmet is not a good look. I was worried about getting onto it elegantly but once I was on it actually felt very secure," she said.
She also visited the Cape Winelands, stroked a cheetah called Hemmingway and ate spicy Malay food in a private home.
