WTTC launches CSR report
WTTC launched a new Corporate Social Responsibility report at the World Travel Market.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is the commitment by business to assume responsibilities that go beyond the scope of simple commercial relationships to include the economic, environmental and social triple bottom line.
The spread of globalisation and the challenges that it brings, growing consumer awareness and the recent fall of industry giants such as Enron and Worldcom have put pressure on industry to start re-evaluating its role in society. Some WTTC Members are becoming leaders’ in this area by making deep-rooted changes to the way they do business and incorporating the triple bottom line into its core mission and values.
Accor, Abercrombie & Kent, Avis, British Airways, Carlson Companies, Marriott, Movenpick, Radisson, SAS, Singapore Airlines, Six Continents, TUI, and Worldspan are among the many visionary leaders in Travel & Tourism that have realized a deep strategic commitment to CSR can only prove in the long-term, to be a profitable move economically, socially and environmentally.
1. Given the growing importance of sustainable development issues and increasing pressure for the private sector to make a positive contribution to society, there is a compelling case that corporate social responsibility is not only good for society, but also critical for the future of business.
2. Travel & Tourism has a particular opportunity to contribute to global sustainable development.
3. Recognizing this potential, some companies in the Travel & Tourism industry are world leaders in making the creation of value for society an integral part of creating value for their businesses.
