WTTC welcomes introduction of EU Digital Covid Certificate
The World Travel & Tourism Council has welcomed the launch of the EU Digital Covid Certificate.
The roll-out is a first major step in the travel recovery stage and will boost confidence in cross-border travel.
That will lead to more job security for millions, said Virginia Messina, WTTC Senior Vice President.
"The certificate should aid the return of the safe international travel; help recover jobs and signal the revival of a sector which will be critical to the economic recovery across the continent," Messina said.
"We are hopeful the new Digital Covid Certificate will play a major role in safely reopening a sector that will save jobs, livelihoods and economies around the world."
The global body has urged member states to ensure rules are implemented in a coordinated way to avoid confusion and cross-border processing delays.
"We’d like to commend the EU Commission and institutions for adopting this swiftly, however, EU member states must take a coordinated and harmonised approach, aligning polices to avoid fragmentation."
