Wyndham Hotel Group is making a big push in Canada with plans for 40 new midscale hotels.

It has unveiled plans to develop 25 Wingate by Wyndham hotels over the next 25 years and 15 Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham hotels during the next 15 years.

Wyndham announced multi-unit agreements with PHI Hotel Group which will increase the Wingate brand five-fold and introduce the Hawthorn brand to Canada.

Most of the hotels will be new builds and will begin opening from next year, the company said.

"These agreements demonstrate our steadfast commitment to continued growth in Canada," said Chip Ohlsson, Wyndham Hotel Group’s chief development officer.

"We’re targeting Canada’s leading cities—where travelers really want to be—with two incredible brands that guests embrace for their convenience, quality and experience."

Major markets include Montreal, Ottawa, Calgary, and Halifax, Ohlsson said.

Wyndham currently has 46 projects in the pipeline in Canada, comprising more than 4,600 rooms, and operates 11 of its 16 global brands in the country.

"Wingate and Hawthorn stand out for us and for our guests, offering thoughtful, consistent experiences under a trusted name. This collaboration is a natural fit," said Sukhi Rai, president of PHI Hotel Group.
