Wynn Resorts fined USD35 million by Massachusetts Gaming Commission

Steve Wynn’s indiscretions have become extremely expensive for the firm he founded and once led.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission fined Wynn Resorts $35 million, which is on top of a $20 million fine imposed by the Nevada Gaming Commission earlier this year.

The good news for Wynn Resorts: it gets to keep its Massachusetts gaming license which clears the final obstacle to opening its $2.6 billion Encore Boston Harbor resort in Everett, Massachusetts.

Commission chair Cathy Judd-Stein said it was a fair resolution and its lengthy investigations into Wynn’s handling of the scandal ‘ensures public confidence in the integrity of the gaming industry.’

The company is ‘in the process of reviewing the decision and considering the full range of our next steps.’

Wynn will be reluctant to rock the boat further by challenging the fine as it seek to finally bring to an end a highly damaging period.

Steve Wynn was ousted after claims of sexual misconduct were made which included multiple settlements to employees.

The commission called out the company for turning a blind eye to the sexual misconduct allegations over many years and fined current CEO Matt Maddox $500,000 for his failure in enforcing company policy as one of the few people from that time still with the company.
