Yellow Jersey for Yorkshire tourism
Tourism agency Welcome to Yorkshire’s in-house PR team has scooped a major PR award.
The team, led by head of communications Dee Marshall, won the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (Yorks and Lincs) gold award for ‘outstanding in-house public relations team’ for their work promoting Yorkshire, including their success in publicising the Yorkshire Grand Départ of the Tour de France, which they achieved with virtually no budget.
Nearly four million people came out to see to the event and it has since been described as the grandest Grand Départ ever and has catapulted Yorkshire into the global spotlight.
Marshall said: "We’re a small team with virtually no budget but that doesn’t stop us achieving phenomenal result.
"The team is constantly coming up with creative ideas to make sure we secure coverage and they work incredibly hard. I’m very proud to have such a great team."
The team, made up of Andy Denton, Jo Francisco, Graham Poucher, Tom Swain and Lara Thornton, all played key roles during the bid, lead up and delivery of the Grand Départ of the Tour de France – securing media coverage for Yorkshire of more than £330m.
