Young people hardest hit by UK’s rising unemployment
Young people have been particularly hard-hit by the UK’s rising unemployment, official figures show.
As the jobless total rose to 4.1% of the population in the three months to July, it was those aged 16 to 24 who saw the biggest drop in employment compared with other age groups.
More job cuts are expected, especially within the travel industry as the government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme drawing to an end on 31 October.
Already thousands of jobs have been lost across the industry, with Travel Counsellors one of the latest to announce possible redundancies at its head office.
