SIA and Scoot carried a combined 36.4 million passengers, which is up 37.6% year-on-year. A As a result, the Group passenger load factor was up 2.6% to a record 88%. Group revenue rose $1,2 billion to $19 billion with a double digit increase in passenger flown revenue. As of 31 March 2024, the two airlines’ operating fleet consisted of 200 aircraft with an average age of seven years and three months. In April 2024, the Group added one Airbus A350-900 and two Embraer E190-E2 aircraft to its fleet with 89 aircraft on order. The passenger network now spans 118 destinations in 35 countries and territories. For summer 2024, Barcelona, Beijing, Darwin, Hong Kong, Houston, KL, Melbourne, Milan, Perth, Rome, Seattle, Shanghai, Taipei-Tokyo (Narita), and Yangon will see an increase in services. SIA launched services to Brussels in April 2024 and will begin operations to London Gatwick next month. Scoot began Embraer E190-E2 operations this month with flights to Krabi. The aircraft will operate to existing short haul destinations such as Hat Yai, Miri, and Kuantan, as well as two routes – Koh Samui (in May 2024) and Sibu (in June 2024). The airline group says air travel demand remains strong thanks to a strong pick up in forward bookings to North Asia and South East Asia. The proposed merger of Air India and Vistara was approved by the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore in March 2024. The launch event at Brussels Airport was attended by Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and the Singapore Ambassador to Benelux. "Brussels gives our customers from Europe an additional point to connect to Singapore, as well as the wider Asia-Pacific region," said Dai Hao Yu, Singapore Airlines Acting Senior Vice President Marketing Planning. Singapore Airlines will operate four weekly Brussels flights to Singapore. The upgraded service will be available on flights from 31 March 2024. Premium Economy Class customers will now be offered a glass of Charles de Cazanove Brut Tradition NV champagne shortly after take-off. Meals will be served in custom-made porcelain Premium Economy Class serviceware. On flights at least seven hours long, a new Out of the Woods amenity kit will be available. It is the first comprehensive upgrade of SIA’s Premium Economy Class in-flight since it was introduced in 2015. Yeoh Phee Teik, SVP Customer Experience, Singapore Airlines, said: “Premium Economy has become popular with our customers. They appreciate the added amenities, heightened comfort, and the extra personal space.” SIA has developed over 200 new appetisers, main courses, and desserts as part of in-flight meal service revamp. Premium Economy Class meals will consist of a seasonal appetiser, main course, bread, dessert, and cheese and crackers. Upgraded bread options will also include croissants for breakfast or garlic bread rolls for lunch, dinner, and supper. New appetisers include garlic roasted prawns with smoked aioli and Patatas Bravas (Spanish fried potatoes), as well as seasonal variations of Japanese cold noodles with soba sauce. Customers may choose from two premium main course options, either international or Asian cuisine, on every flight. New dishes include Beef Bourguignon served with bacon, mushrooms, vegetables, and potato gratin, Bak Chor Mee (minced pork noodles), and Thai-style Crab Curry. Customers may also choose from an expanded Book the Cook menu, which features up to 20 dishes available on rotation, for pre-order at least 24 hours before departure. Air NZ Chief Transformation and Alliances Officer, Mike Williams said: “The partnership gives New Zealanders access to the world beyond the Singapore gateway into destinations in Europe, India and Southeast Asia..” The airline joint venture partners will operate a total of four daily seasonal services between Auckland and Singapore from 27 October 2024 to 29 March 2025. With a fourth daily seasonal service between Auckland and Singapore, the carriers will jointly operate 38 return flights weekly between New Zealand and Singapore during peak months. Demand was led by a rebound in North Asia as China, Hong Kong SAR, Japan, and Taiwan fully reopened. Quarterly revenue passed $5 billion for the first time. Passenger flown revenue was up 10% with net profit at $659 million Group revenue for the nine months to December 2023 rose by $981 million to a record $14,244 million. This was driven by a 20.2% increase in passenger flown revenue. Group net profit for the nine months rose to a record $2.1 billion. This was mainly due to the better operating performance it says. As of the year-end, the operating fleet comprised 202 passenger and freighter aircraft. SIA added three Boeing 787-10s to its fleet in the third quarter, bringing its operating fleet to 143 passenger aircraft. Sister brand Scoot operates 52 passenger aircraft and will take delivery of its first Embraer E190-E2 aircraft in April 2024. The Group has an additional 92 aircraft on order. During the third quarter, SIA reinstated services to Chongqing and Xiamen, while Scoot resumed flights to Kunming. The two airlines now operate to 23 destinations in China, compared to 25 pre-pandemic. SIA will also launch five-times weekly direct flights between Singapore and London (Gatwick) in June 2024. The flag carrier announced five-times weekly Singapore flights from London Gatwick starting next summer. The route will commence from LGW on 22 June 2024, with a promotional lead-in return fare of £645pp now on sale at singaporeair.com. The new service will complement the airline’s four daily flights from London Heathrow and five-times weekly flights from Manchester. It increases to 38 direct flights a week from the UK to Singapore which is more than any other carrier. Singapore Airlines offers the fastest connecting service from the UK to Sydney, Australia in 21 hours 40 minutes. Departing from London Gatwick’s North Terminal, the new Singapore flights take off at 10:15am and arrive in Singapore at 6:20am the next day. The 13-hour flight will be operated with Airbus A350-900 jets with 253 seats in three cabin classes, and complimentary in-flight Wi-Fi as a KrisFlyer member. Mohamed Rafi Mar, Singapore Airlines General Manager UK & Ireland, said: “We are excited to announce London Gatwick as our third UK gateway, offering customers more choice to Southeast Asia and beyond.” Singapore Airlines flight SQ309 will operate on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. -

It follows the ICAO’s global framework for Sustainable Aviation Fuels declaration in Dubai. Sustainable aviation can reduce carbon emissions by up to 80% on a life-cycle basis. The airlines remain committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Goh Choon Phong, CEO, Singapore Airlines, said: “This is an important milestone in the SIA Group’s sustainability journey.” The greater use of SAF will be a key lever in our decarbonisation strategy, which includes our continued investment in new generation aircraft and greater operational efficiencies.” The airlines called for deeper collaboration with partners, stakeholders and governments globally. “We will continue to find opportunities to work together to support the greater production and use of sustainable fuels.” It says discussions with fuel suppliers to purchase SAF are ongoing. In 2017 SIA operated 12 green package flights from San Francisco to Singapore that incorporated the use of SAF. In 2020, SIA entered a year-long partnership with Stockholm’s Swedavia Airport to deploy a blend of jet fuel and SAF through the airport’s fuel hydrant system. This year, SIA, CAAS, and GenZero concluded a 20-month SAF pilot scheme. It saw 1,000 tonnes of neat SAF imported, blended in Singapore, and uplifted via Changi Airport’s fuel hydrant system on SIA and Scoot flights. -

It will allow the airlines to increase flight options for customers travelling between the Philippines and Singapore, as well as to other domestic and international destinations via their hubs. The airline codeshare will start on SIA’s and PAL’s flights between Singapore and Manila from the fourth quarter of 2023. Singapore Airlines will also codeshare on PAL’s flights from Manila to 27 destinations within the Philippines. Also, PAL will codeshare on SIA’s flights to six Europe destinations – Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Milan, Paris, Rome and Zurich. These European codeshare sectors will be rolled out gradually across PAL and SIA sales channels, including philippineairlines.com and singaporeair.com, as well as travel agents over the coming weeks. PAL previously flew to Frankfurt, Paris, Rome, and Zurich in the 1980s and 1990s. The airlines said they will explore expanding the airline codeshare agreement to Singapore Airlines-operated flights to other Europe cities and destinations in Australia, India, New Zealand and South Africa. Captain Stanley K. SIA credits the rebound in passenger traffic to North Asia along with the full reopening of China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Taiwan. SIA and sister brand Scoot carried 17.4 million passengers in the first six months of the year, an increase of 52.3% year-on-year. Passenger traffic grew 38% from a year ago, outpacing the capacity expansion of 29 %. That pushed up the two airlines’ passenger load factor (PLF) by 5.8%. Individually, SIA and Scoot achieved record passenger loads of 88.0% and 91.3% respectively. Overall, the Group recorded an operating airline profit of $1.554 billion, $320 million higher than a year earlier. The Group posted a net profit of $1,441 million. SIA added three aircraft to its operating fleet in the second quarter. These comprise one Airbus A350-900 and two Boeing 787-10s. The combined fleet is now 202 aircraft including seven freighters. The Group has another 96 aircraft on order. The Group’s passenger network now covers 119 destinations in 36 countries and territories.
