Pro China hackers target Vietnam airports

Thursday, 01 Aug, 2016 0
Authorities are investigating how hackers managed to infiltrate flight information screens at Vietnam’s two biggest airports and the website of the country’s national flag carrier.

Electronic check-ins at Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City had to be halted temporarily late Friday after they were compromised by an attack by a group calling itself ‘1937CN.’

The website of Vietnam Airlines was also targeted with site visitors automatically directed to ‘bad websites overseas,’ the airline said.

The Vietnam vice transport minister Nguyen Nhat said messages posted on the airline’s website offended the nation, and that of the Philippines.

The attack seems to be a pro-China political act against Vietnam and the Philippines with ‘distorting content’ posted about sovereignty in the South China Sea.

In July a court ruled there were no legal grounds for China’s claims to large areas of the South China Sea.

That decision irked the Beijing government which has refused to acknowledge the ruling.
