23 Green Golds For Jurys

Thursday, 26 Jun, 2010 0

Jurys Inn has become the first hotel chain to be awarded gold medals for all of its 23 UK properties from the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS).

Jurys Inn’s Aberdeen hotel was the latest to receive gold, and the company says its commitment to green practices and reducing energy use and water consumption will save it £1m over a three year period.

John Brennan, chief executive at Jurys Inn, said: “Getting everyone at Jurys to help has been essential. The energy, attention to detail and ‘buy-in’ from staff is one of the main reasons Jurys has been able to achieve so many gold awards.”

The GTBS is the national sustainable tourism certification scheme for the UK. Originally developed in partnership with Visit Scotland, it is now the only certification scheme validated by Visit Britain

Jurys Inn will open a new £20m hotel in Bradford next month.Jurys Inns Environment Responsibility

  • The Company has energy teams in each hotel, and implements an energy awareness programme, to maintain energy and water reporting procedures
  • The Carbon Trust is an independent company funded by the UK Government and has a dedicated wing called Hospitable Climates Programme that all Jurys Inns UK have signed up to. This programme sponsored by the British Department of the Environment to meet EU targets for reduction of green house gases.
  • The use of renewable energy from Airtricity for all Irish Inns in place of fossil fuels makes a significant contribution to reducing the emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases.
  • New builds coming on stream will include where possible Heat Recovery Systems, Solar Panels, Rain Water Harvesting, Sensor Lights and Led Bulbs.
