‘85% agree to BA opt-in scheme with Amadeus’
More than 85% of Amadeus users have agreed to British Airways’ “opt in” pricing plan, the GDS claims.
The arrangement gives agents access to the airline’s lowest European and domestic fares in selected classes after BA cut commissions and imposed booking fees from March 1. Agents opting for the Amadeus scheme pay a reduced fee but in return receive a credit for each car, hotel or cruise booking made through the system.
Amadeus UK sales director Peter Cacioppo said: “We are extremely pleased with the take-up of our opt-in BA low fares access scheme, which includes the new productivity programme, and are glad that we took the time to find a long-term sustainable solution that works for all parties involved.”
He said customers had “applauded the measured approach we have taken to the recent pricing issue within the UK”.
Mr Cacioppo was speaking as Amadeus UK announced a record first quarter with 13 new clients signed up in the first three months of 2004, including Sackville Travel, Explore Worldwide and Classic Collection Holidays. The GDS attributed the deals to its partnerships with software suppliers such as Travelink.
