Affluent don’t let hurricanes dampen their ardor
Hurricanes in Florida are not deterring affluent Americans who rated it their first choice in a recent survey.
Thomas, Townsend & Kent (TTK) and market intelligence firm BIGresearch found 16.6% of affluent travelers ranked the state the Sunshine State their first choice for upcoming vacations.
Other popular destinations lagged behind (Las Vegas, 5.6%; Cancun, 2.6%; and Hawaii, 2.3%).
Asked specifically if the hurricanes had influenced their travel plans, 87% of those surveyed said the storms had no impact. Only 2.7% cancelled a land-based vacation, and 0.6 reported canceling a cruise.
Said Roy Weiss, TTK executive vice president:
“The fact that the hurricanes did not damage interest in Florida as a vacation destination is a testament to the strong appeal of its warm tropical weather and the diverse travel options available throughout the state.”
He added that TTK’s Florida offers to affluent travelers had generated a “tremendous response.”
