After bombing US urges ‘worldwide caution’
In the wake of the bombing of an Israeli tourist bus in Bulgaria and given recent security scares about the London Olympics, the US Department of State issued a Worldwide Caution today. The Caution referred directly to recent: ‘terrorist actions and violence against US citizens and interests throughout the world."
The notice urged citizens to maintain a high level of vigilance.
Although hot spots like Africa, the Middle East, South Asia and North Africa are cited, so is Europe.
The statement says: "Current information suggests that al-Qaida, its affiliated organizations and other terrorist groups continue to plan terrorist attacks against U.S. and Western interests in Europe. European governments have taken action to guard against terrorist attacks, and some have spoken publicly about the heightened threat conditions. In the past several years, attacks have been planned or occurred in various European cities. "
The caution notice also highlighted the possibility of attacks at public sports events, transportation systems and other tourist infrastructure. It cited past attacks in Moscow, London, Madrid, Glasgow and New York City.
