Air India firms up aircraft order for 470 jets
Air India has confirmed purchase agreements to buy 470 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing.
It firmed up the aircraft orders at the Paris Air Show.
It announced the bumper orders worth up to $70 billion based on list prices earlier this year.
Air India’s firm orders include 34 A350-1000, six A350-900, 20 Boeing 787 Dreamliner’s and 10 Boeing 777X widebody aircraft.
It will also buy 140 Airbus A320neo, 70 Airbus A321neo and 190 Boeing 737 Max jets.
First up for delivery will be Airbus A350 jets later this year.
The bulk of the order will arrive starting from mid-2025.
N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons and Air India, said: “This landmark step positions Air India for long-term growth and success.”
Satair, an Airbus company, and Boeing Global Services will support the airline order with a range of parts and maintenance provisioning, and modification services.
Air India has already started taking delivery of 11 leased B777 and 25 A320 aircraft to accelerate its network expansion.
It follows hot on the heels of rival IndiGo’s huge aircraft order of 500 Airbus planes.
