Air India ‘Jai Hind’ directive is butt of Twitter jokes
Air India has been ridiculed on social media after instructing all of its crew to finish every in-flight announcement with the patriotic phrase ‘Jai Hind’, which means ‘hail the motherland’.
The directive was sent to cabin and cockpit crew on Monday, days after Ashwani Lohani returned to the airline as chairman and managing director.
It tells staff to say the phrase after a ‘slight pause and with much fervour’.
It quickly inspired sarcastic tweets of imaginary in-flight announcements by the ailing national airline, which has not turned a profit since 2007.
