Air India penalised over London flight pilot duty violations

India’s aviation regulator is cracking down on flag carrier Air India over ‘repeated and serious violations’ on crew scheduling for long haul flights to the UK.
It ordered the airline to remove three executives from crew scheduling positions at the company.
These were a divisional vice president, a chief manager of crew scheduling, and a planning executive.
The violations were on recent flights from Bengaluru to London, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said.
Flights last week violated the maximum 10-hour pilot flight time limit.
The DGCA report noted ‘systemic failures’ in scheduling.
The airline confirmed it has removed the three managers from their positions.
“Air India is committed to ensuring that there is total adherence to safety protocols and standard practices,” it said.
The DGCA said Air India voluntarily disclosed the violations.
