Air India will pay out compensation of more than $100,000 (about £86,000) to the families of each passenger who died in the Ahmedabad air crash.

The London Gatwick bound plane came down just after take-off, killing all but one person.

British man Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, 40 from Leicester was the sole survivor.

He miraculously suffered only minor injuries

There were also fatalities in damaged buildings at the crash site.

“Thirty seconds after take-off, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly,” Kumar Ramesh told India media.

The plane had issued a mayday call almost immediately.

The crash may cost Air India’s insurers at least $120 million in total under passenger legal liability claims and third-party liability claims, although it could be much higher

The families of 52 other British passengers who died will be compensated.

The flight was also carrying 169 Indian nationals, 7 Portuguese, and 1 Canadian.
