Air India scrapping underperforming Mumbai-New York route
Air India is scrapping its Mumbai to New York JFK service due to low demand.
It only launched the three times a week service in December but just a few weeks later it was put on hold due Pakistan closing its airspace to traffic to and from India.
It was due to restart in June.
"We won’t be resuming the service. The flight has been discontinued owing to poor load factor or low seat occupancy," an AI spokesperson said.
However, the airline will still operate direct flights from Mumbai to Newark.
In contrast, Air India’s US routes from Delhi have been performing well, it said.
It operates Boeing B777-ER aircraft on US routes from Delhi which include Chicago, San Francisco and New York.
