Air rage man gets nine months’ jail
A British traveller has been jailed for nine months after he got so drunk on a flight that the captain was forced to make an emergency landing.
The incident happened on a British Airways flight from London to Mexico last year; the man was accused of swearing at cabin crew and waking sleeping passengers after getting very drunk.
The pilot decided to make an emergency landing at Bangor, Maine, because he was so concerned. Robert Doherty, of Wanstead, was found guilty of being drunk on an aircraft last month; yesterday he was sentenced for the crime.
According to the Daily Express, the judge told him: “Being drunk in a public house or on the street is one thing, but being drunk in the confines of a Boeing 747 carrying 200 over passengers is a serious offence.”
