Air Tahiti Nui announces upcoming direct service between Tahiti and Australia
Air Tahiti Nui is continuing to expand its international network and has announced the upcoming launch of a new direct route between Papeete and Sydney (PPT–SYD).
This new service is part of the airline’s strategy to strengthen long-term connectivity between French Polynesia and the major regional hubs of the South Pacific. Air Tahiti Nui used to serve Sydney until 2009.
The route is scheduled to launch on Monday, December 14, 2026. Air Tahiti Nui will operate two flights per week, providing travelers with a direct, regular and nonstop option between Tahiti and Australia. The new connection will significantly reduce travel time and simplify journeys between the two territories.
Air Tahiti Nui planned flight schedule is as follows
TN301 Papeete 12.10 – Sydney 17.45 +1 Boeing 787-9 Monday and Thursday
TN302 Sydney 20.10 – Papeete 06.25 Boeing 787-9 Tuesday and Friday
Tahiti and its Islands continues to confirm its growing appeal among Australian travelers, one of the destination’s most dynamic international markets. According to the latest provisional data from ISPF (Institute of Statistics of French Polynesia), the French Pacific territory welcomed nearly 279,000 tourists in 2025, setting a new visitor record and continuing the upward trend seen in recent years.
Current trends also confirm the strong performance of the Australian market. With 8,165 visitors in 2025, Australia is making a positive contribution to the diversification and strengthening of tourism flows to the destination.
Sydney, a major regional hub for the Pacific, naturally stands out as a strategic gateway for improving accessibility.
Lionel Guérin, CEO of Air Tahiti Nui, said: “We are very pleased to announce this new direct route between Papeete and Sydney. With two direct flights per week and thanks to the code-share agreement with Qantas, this service will provide Australian travelers with greater comfort and more frequency options, especially when combined with our twice-weekly service to Auckland in New Zealand.”
As across its entire network, Air Tahiti Nui will offer on this new route an immersive travel experience inspired by its islands. The airline’s teams will bring Polynesian hospitality on board, ensuring every passenger enjoys a journey that is comfortable, attentive and warm.
Ticket sales are expected to officially open in March 2026. This new service marks another milestone in the expansion of Air Tahiti Nui’s network and further strengthens French Polynesia’s direct connectivity with key regional and international markets.
