Air travel mask mandate scrapped
The Biden administration won’t impose the federal mask mandate any longer.
The mask mandate was struck down by a federal judge and won’t be challenged by the administration with less than two weeks before it was set to expire.
Airlines have responded with Delta Air Lines, American, United Airlines, Southwest, Alaska Airlines and JetBlue making masks optional.
“While we are glad this means many of us get to see your smiling faces, we understand some might have mixed feelings. Please remember to be kind to one another and that wearing a mask while traveling is still an option,” Alaska Airlines said.
American Airlines said: “Face masks will no longer be required for our customers and team members at US airports and on domestic flights.”
“Please note face masks may still be required based on local ordinances, or when traveling to/from certain international locations,” it added.
Southwest said customers can ‘choose whether they would like to wear a mask, and make the best decision to support their personal wellbeing.’
Amtrak said it will no longer enforce face masks for passengers and workers.
