Air Zimbabwe plans London flight restart after more than a decade
Air Zimbabwe will resume flights to London after a long 14-year hiatus.
The flag carrier is projecting a London flight resumption by June 2026.
It is still exploring the leasing of a wide body aircraft to fly the London route and says ‘good progress has been made’ on this.
It is all part of a fleetwide restructuring for the state-owned airline, says Mutapa Investment Fund CEO, John Mangudya.
“We are also putting in place a facility to lease a bigger plane, a Boeing, to fly the Harare–London route.”
The airline plans to sell two dormant Boeing 777s to generate funds to modernise its domestic aircraft fleet too.
It currently flies two Embraer ERJ-145 aircraft and has several planes, including Boeing 737s, in storage or leased out.
Speaking of the Harare-London route, Mangudya said: “This is one of the most lucrative routes in Africa.”
