AirAsia India flight makes emergency landing
A day after restarting domestic flights India had its first mid-flight emergency.
A Hyderabad-bound AirAsia flight carrying 70 passengers had to perform an emergency landing after a technical issue forced pilots to shut down an engine.
It landed safely and passengers were able to deplane as normal.
"The plane ‘encountered a technical issue and carried out a precautionary engine shut down. Crew landed the plane as scheduled," the airline said.
"We are carrying out detailed inspection of the aircraft. Having informed DGCA we are assisting in the investigation to establish the cause," it added.
The plane is out of service while checks are conducted.
A subsequent flight was delayed as passengers were re-accommodated onto another aircraft.
Domestic flights resumed on Monday after a two-month lockdown across India.
It is a phased restart for airlines with about 30% of flights operating compared to normal levels for the time of year.
