AirAsia launching Sydney-Bali flights

Thursday, 14 Aug, 2015 0

The busy Sydney-Bali holiday route is about to get even more competitive.

Budget carrier Indonesia AirAsia X will begin serving the route five times weekly from October 17.

It will be up against incumbent carriers Garuda Indonesia, Virgin Australia and Jetstar.

To kick off the service, Airasia has announced an introductory price of $119 one way, which undercuts all three competitors on the route.

Flights have already been granted approval from the Australian regulator.

With soon-to-be four competitors plying the route, travellers may benefit from lower fares.

AirAsia will use A330-300 aircraft with a capacity for 377 passengers on the route, which is already showing strong load factors, Airasia said.

"We’re delighted to expand connectivity with the east coast of Australia," Kurniawan said.

"Bali has long been a favoured holiday destination for Australians and it continues to grow in popularity."
