AirAsia plans to enter Malaysia ride-hailing market
AirAsia wants to grab a piece of the ride-hailing action in Malaysia.
AirAsia Group boss Tony Fernandes says he is unworried about dominant ride hailing player Grab.
To compete effectively, Fernandes hinted at focusing on the first and last mile airport pickup and drop-off for AirAsia flight customers.
It is just another step in its ‘super app’ ambitions. It recently launched a food delivery service which is in direct competition with GrabFood but so far only has limited coverage.
Other than Grab, there are other competitors MyCar, EzCab, Dacsee, Riding Pink, and MULA, although they have a small market share.
Grab’s main rival in several Southeast Asia markets is Indonesia’s Go-Jek which is still in discussions about launching in Malaysia.
