AirAsia soars with those extra charges
AirAsia ‘s second-quarter net profit rose 43 percent from a year earlier as recovering economies in the region boosted passenger traffic and load factors.
The airline said the second quarter result was a record for the airline.
Ancillary revenue grew significantly. “The numbers reaffirm our conviction that in ancillary we have unearthed a gushing revenue stream that can boost our bottom line and also serve as a buffer to rising fuel prices,†said AirAsia Group CEO, Tony Fernandes.
The Kuala Lumpur-based low-cost carrier said in a statement that net profit for the April-to-June quarter rose to US$63 million.
“Based on the current forward booking trend, the underlying passenger demand in the third and fourth quarters for the Malaysian, Thai and Indonesian operations remains positive,” Fernandes added.
