Airfare war erupts on east coast shuttle flights
US Airways started this week an Internet fare war on their New York shuttle service to Boston and DC by cutting its round-trip advance booking fares 44% to $138 from $248.
Delta Air Lines has responded with a $141 fare between DC and New York, while the other major competitor to US Airways, Amtrak, is offering $126 round trip.
US Airways has also cut its weekend round-trip shuttle fares by 60 percent for this weekend and the next as part of its annual holiday sale. The $98 tickets does not require advance purchase but must be bought at the airline’s Web site.
