Airline executive charged with pimping and human trafficking
An Air France executive has been accused of using cheap staff tickets to fly young women from Brazil and force them to work as prostitutes in Paris.
The executive, identified only as Alain D, has been charged with his wife and another alleged accomplice, both from Brazil, with human trafficking, pimping and criminal conspiracy.
The trio allegedly earned €2 million a year since 2010 from the illegal operation.
Prosecutors told Le Parisien newspaper that the executive was able to buy heavily discounted tickets from the airline, which were intended for family and friends, to shuttle some of the women between France and Brazil.
The operation was brought to a halt after one of the women, who had travelled to France in 2010 escaped her pimps and alerted police.
