Airlines come up with rescue fares for stranded Wow passengers
Virgin Atlantic, Aer Lingus, Wizz, Norwegian and Icelandair are offering special ‘rescue’ fares to passengers stranded by the collapse of Wow Air.
Wizz Air is offering a £74.99 one-way fare from Reykjavik to London Luton, valid for travel until May 10 2019 and subject to availability.
Bookings can be made via a special rescue fare site until April 7. Customers will need to show evidence of their Wow Air booking to any London airport.
Aer Lingus made its rescue fares available after 6.30pm on Thursday night.
They are for Wow passengers scheduled to travel from April 12 onwards and are from £199 each way, including taxes and charges.
The numbers to book are 0333 006 6920 from the UK and 1 890 800600 from Ireland.
Norwegian Air is offering a 25% discount on economy fares from March 29 to April 8 on selected Europea-US routes.
Passengers must provide a valid Wow Air ticket for the same route pair.
Virgin Atlantic did not specify its special fares but told stranded passengers they can access them by showing proof of a Wow Air ticket and booking between now and April 6 for travel up until April 30.
Cash-strapped Wow Air ceased trading on Thursday morning after it failed to find investors.
Icelandair had reopened talks with Wow after the low-cost carrier lost the support of a potential US financial backer last week, but discussions broke down over the weekend.
Icelandair is offering rescue fares for Wow Air passengers that have a ticket home between today and April 11. It has set up a dedicated hotline.
