Airlines play catch up after US mega snow dump

Wednesday, 30 Dec, 2010 0

Passengers travelling to and from destinations on the Atlantic Coast in the US are slowing managing to catch their delayed flights after huge snow dumps paralysed much of the eastern seaboard during the Christmas break.

New York suffered its sixth biggest snow storm ever recorded whilst Boston and Philadelphia came to a virtual standstill on the day after Christmas when the snow dump arrived.

Thousands of flights were cancelled at New York’s three airports and rail services ground to a halt when 20 inches of snow fell over two days from Boxing Day on north eastern America.

Now airlines are working through the backlog and say it will take some days yet to catch up.

United and Continental customers were urged this week to go online to reschedule or ask for a refund for flights that never took off.
