Airlines scrap Florida flights ahead of hurricane
Several transatlantic flights to Florida have been cancelled ahead of Hurricane Milton making landfall in the Sunshine State.
Milton has strengthened to a Cat 3 hurricane which poses an ‘extremely serious threat’ the National Hurricane Center says.
British Airways flights from London Gatwick to Tampa today and Wednesday are cancelled and Virgin Atlantic also cancelled its Heathrow-Tampa flights for the next two days.
There is a State of Emergency in 35 counties across west and central Florida.
Tampa International Airport (TPA) will suspend operations at 9am local time later today while some domestic services have been brought forward.
All Orlando International flights will be grounded one hour earlier.
All flights expected to arrive and depart on 9 October are cancelled although Virgin’s Edinburgh -Orlando flight has been pushed back by a day.
“Services to and from Orlando and Tampa are subject to cancellations and delays. We’d like to thank our customers for their patience as we work through the impact of Hurricane Milton,” a Virgin Atlantic spokesperson said.
Disney parks have halted all new park ticket reservations for Wednesday.
