Airport worker injured in plane collision
A tarmac accident at Chicago O’Hare International Airport has left a worker in a serious condition in hospital.
An aircraft collided with an airport tug vehicle which flipped over and crushed the 64-year-old driver.
He is in hospital with multiple injuries.
The Air Wisconsin flight has just landed in Chicago and was headed to the gate when it collided with the tug.
Chicago Police Department said the tug was crossing the taxiway when it was struck by the Bombardier CRJ-200 jet.
The tug overturned and pinned the driver underneath.
The driver suffered head and lower body injuries, police said.
No passengers on the flight were injured but they had to deplane and continue to the terminal by bus.
Air Wisconsin operates regional flights as an American Eagle partner airline for American Airlines.
“Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and team members, and we are reviewing this incident,” American Airlines said.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the accident.
