Alaska voyages cancelled amid Canadian port closures

Princess Cruises, Seabourn and Holland America have cancelled Alaskan voyages following the Canadian Government decision to shut ports to passenger vessels.

Seabourn has cancelled 19 Alaskan and British Columbia voyages on Seabourn Odyssey between Vancouver and Juneau, including a Pacific Coast trip at the end of the season.

Princess, meanwhile, has scrapped Alaska seven-day Voyage of the Glaciers cruises, which sail between Vancouver and Anchorage, Pacific Coastal sailings that start or end in Vancouver, and a Canadian Adventure voyage which sails roundtrip from Southampton.

The cruise line said it remains in talks with US and Canadian officials to preserve a portion of the Alaska, Canada and New England 2021 cruise season.

"We share in our guests’ disappointment over these cancelled voyages especially as we have been preparing our ships for our return to service," Princess Cruises President Jan Swartz said.

"Princess Cruises has sailed to Alaska for more than 50 years and the incredible Last Frontier is part of our proud heritage. We understand, how much of Alaska is dependent on the cruise economy.

"We are going to do all we can to help our business partners and the communities of Alaska."

A third cruise line, Holland America, has also cancelled ‘several’ Alaskan voyages, including three Canada/New England and two Pacific Coastal cruises.

Meanwhile, Carnival Cruise Line will suspend operations from US ports until 31 May.

No resumption date has been confirmed.
