Alton Towers’ ride given 12A certificate

A ride at Alton Towers has been given a 12A certificate after it was deemed too scary for under 12s.

The British Board of Film Classification has given the Nemesis Sub-Terra ride at Alton Towers the age limit after being called in by park bosses before the opening on 24 March.

Until now the BBFC has only dealt with films or game, reports the Sun.

The ruling means that under 12s will need an adult to go with them.

The new attraction, which is a closely guarded secret, is set underground in caves and is based on the original Nemesis ride which opened in 1994.

A spokesman for Alton Towers, which is run by Merlin Entertainments Group, said although it was concerned the classification meant some younger visitors would not be able to experience the new ride, it was important for the well-being of guests.
