Amadeus aims to make more Irish inroads
Amadeus plans to capture more than a quarter GDS market share in Ireland after signing deals worth €10 million over five years.
The new deals this year include USIT, Falcon Travel and Club Travel, enabling the technology company to secure a claimed additional 15% of the Irish travel market in under a year.
Amadeus Marketing Ireland general manager Volker Lorenz, opening an expanded office in Dublin, set a target of over 27% market share in 2007.
Amadeus research earlier in the year demonstrated that up to 60% of a typical travel agent’s operational costs result from core reservation processes.
The GDS claims that business travel agents using its technology can create air bookings, reserve preferred seats and provide flight information, 66% faster than those using legacy systems. For leisure travel agents, productivity is increased by 56%.
Lorenz said: “It has only taken a few months for the industry to recognise the strength of the Amadeus solutions portfolio, as well as the additional support services we deliver locally. We are looking forward to next year, when we expect to be able to announce another major shake-up in the sector.”
