Amadeus grows non-GDS business
Amadeus has released promising results for the second quarter and says e-commerce now brings in 10% of revenue.
According to Amadeus, a recovery in the global travel industry has helped boost its traditional GDS activities as well as other undertakings.
Bookings through the GDS reached 114.7 million in the second quarter, up nearly 10% from last year. According to Amadeus this grew its market share marginally to retain its leading global position in travel agency bookings. Air bookings were up 12% and hotel bookings grew 16%.
The e-commerce side of the business is e-Travel. It grew revenues by 54% year-on-year according to Amadeus and represented nearly 10% of total revenue for the quarter.
Looking ahead Amadeus hopes to achieve the upper end of its year-end target for net income of between E185 and 195 million. Results are likely to be affected by the consolidation of Opodo in the second half of 2004, following the decision by Amadeus last month to take a majority share.
