American Airlines dropping service to 15 cities
American Airlines has confirmed it will cut 15 cities from its network when bailout money runs out in October.
It will start suspending service from 7 October to the cities, which include Greenville, NC, Springfield, Illinois, Del Rio, TX, Kalamazoo-Battle Creek, MI, and Williamsport, PA.
"This is the first step as American continues to evaluate its network and plans for additional schedule changes in the coming weeks," the airline said.
Destinations served by the American Eagle regional airline would be affected most by the service cuts.
Some cities could now lose all air connectivity.
The service cuts will initially last one month through 3 November but could be extended.
American has received $5.8 billion in payroll assistance funding which is conditional on maintaining staffing and minimum flight service levels through 30 September.
No deal has been reached on an extension of federal funding from October yet.
The U.S. Travel Association has urged Congress to restart negotiations over extending the relief package.
