American Airlines to begin hiring more pilots
American Airlines plans to start hiring pilots again this fall. The airline recently said it plans to fly more than 90% of its 2019 domestic schedule from this summer.
It is targeting hiring 300 new pilots by the end of this year and hopes to double that in 2022. It has a roster of 15,000 pilots although hundreds have chosen to take early retirement while many more are due to stop flying in the next few years as they near retirement age.
The airline will update its hiring plans later this week when it posts its quarterly financial figures.
