American Airlines to suit staff in trend-pushing fashion
American Airlines continues to roll out "the new American" look, now with the announcement that its staff will be getting new uniforms from the design team of Ken Kaufman and Issac Franco of Kaufmanfranco.
The designers worked at Valentino and Emanuel Ungaro before launching their own celebrity-luring label in 2004. Their profile is very much what Halston was in the 1970s: sophistication, clean lines, and the occasional nod to urban trends. Jennifer Lopez and Taylor Swift are big fans.
The new uniforms (which flight attendants and pilots might be wearing throughout the potentially merged US Airways/American mega airline) will be rolled out in the next 18 to 24 months. The designers have been quoted as talking about pushing the "functional and fashionable" envelope.
While fashion and trend-pushing style is very much central to American’s new image, it seems that "chic" at the airline is only for a certain segment of their flying staff.
American says service clerks will get new uniforms from an unnamed "separate provider" later this year. Their uniforms were "designed in collaboration with the Transport Works Union and fleet service team."
Focus on their outfits is not fashion, it’s "weather-compatible fabrics and comfortable styles tailored to their unique role."
Note to American: Levis are just one fashion trend that started with the average working Joe’s "unique" working ensembles.
