American Cruise Lines names new modern riverboat American Song

American Cruise Lines has revealed the name of its upcoming ultra-modern river ship.

The line’s first ship in the Modern Riverboat class will be named American Song and is due to begin service next fall.

In a departure away from the traditional paddlewheeler, American Song will boast a four-story glass atrium and large lounge areas.

The line says the 102 staterooms will be the largest in the US riverboat market and all have balconies.

It also features a putting green and croquet.

"American Song integrates modern design without sacrificing the refined comfort that American Cruise Lines is known for. Wider, faster, and quieter than any other river cruise ship, American Song will be the most environmentally friendly ship in the industry," the line said in a statement.

The ship will spend its inaugural season on the Mississippi River and then heads to the Columbia and Snake rivers in the Pacific Northwest for 2019.

The vessel is currently under construction at Chesapeake Shipbuilding’s yard in Maryland.
