What are Americans doing for the July 4th holiday? Kayak has some answers:

  • 31% of consumers plan to travel for the holiday

  • 28% of Americans plan to take the whole or partial week off to celebrate the holiday

  • 15% of travelers plan to fly to their destination

  • 67% of consumers report that rising gas prices have not affected their plans

  • 59% of Americans said they are driving to their destination

  • Perhaps surprisingly, 50% of Americans say they have or would spend July Fourth outside of the US.

The preferred city for Americans to see fireworks was New York, followed by Washington.

The favorite July 4th memory was family barbecues followed by firecrackers, wearing patriotic garb, singing and eating hot dogs.
