Anantara to the rescue in Thailand
Luxury hotel brand Anantara’s jumbo charity event – the annual Kings Cup Elephant Polo Tournament – will take place this year in the royal seaside town of Hua Hin from August 28 to September 1
The tournament has grown to become one of the biggest charitable events in Thailand that has raised almost US$600,000 for projects that better the lives of Thailand’s elephant population.
Such projects include the building of Thailand’s first elephant hospital in the south, providing elephant shelters and housing for their mahouts and families, a mobile blood centrifuge for elephants in need and an elephant ambulance for the Thai Elephant Conservation Centre (TECC).
To date, Anantara has rescued 30 elephants off the streets and they now enjoy a comfortable lifestyle at Anantara Golden Triangle’s onsite Elephant Camp.
In addition, the elephant event allows a further 50 young elephants to be taken off the streets and provides them with a native forest environment, the best food possible, as well as the only proper veterinary check and vitamins they receive all year.
The four-day Hua Hin festival includes a spectacular opening parade, celebrity matches, a baby elephant camp for children, and this year for the first time, Ladies Day with prizes for the best dressed.
A Moulin Rouge themed auction gala dinner tops off fundraising efforts with all the proceeds donated to various projects for the betterment of Thailand’s elephants.
This year’s event aims to raise more money to continue to support projects that better the lives of both the domesticated and wild elephant population throughout Thailand.
