Apple Pay checking in at Marriott
Marriott international will become the first global hospitality company to allow guests to pay for stays with Apple Pay.
The company will begin rolling out the service this summer at several brands, including The Ritz-Carlton, EDITION, Renaissance Hotels, and Marriott Hotels.
The first phase will be available at 11 hotels including JW Marriott Chicago, New York Marriott Downtown, EDITION Miami, The Ritz-Carlton Washington DC and San Francisco Marriott Marquis.
Apple Pay users simply have to place their iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and eventually Apple Watch near a contactless reader at the hotel front desk to confirm secure payment.
Guests do not need to show a credit card upon check-in.
“Approximately 75% of our guests travel with one or more mobile devices, and it is even higher among 25-35 year olds – a group that will make up a much larger proportion of our guests over the next three years,” said George Corbin, senior vice president of Marriott Digital.
“Millions of customers already use Marriott Mobile to quickly book a hotel, check-in, or check out. Now, Apple Pay can make it virtually effortless.”
Marriott said it will roll out an app for Apple Watch once the device is officially released.
Rival hotel group Accor also announced plans this week to release an Apple Watch app for guests.
