US travel agencies set a new record for airline ticket sales in 2019.

The consolidated value of tickets sold last year was $97.4 billion, which is up 2.8% on 2018.

The new landmark was reached thanks to a 10% increase in December to $6.1 billion, the Airlines Reporting Corp said.

ARC says the average US round-trip ticket price is now $494, a $4 increase over 2018.

Overall, ARC settled 302 million trips during the year with the number of domestic and international journeys up 2% and 3% respectively.

Electronic Miscellaneous Document (EMD) sales for the year reached $84.6 million, which equates to a 8% annual increase on 2018.

EMD transactions comprise ancillary services such as premium seats, and other miscellaneous services which are settled separately from the airline ticket.
