ARC: travel agency air ticket sales down 10 percent

Airlines Reporting Corp recorded a drop of more than 10% in the value of air tickets sold by US-based travel agencies in July.
 
Ticket sales dropped to $6.6 billion, down 10.2% compared to last year.
 
So far, the consolidated dollar value of airline tickets sold during the first seven months of 2016 is down 4.8% at $52.7 billion, compared to $55.4 billion for the same period in 2015.
 
Total ticket transactions are on a par with last year at just over 13 million.
 
Trade group Airlines for America recently said average domestic air fares are down by about 6% so far this year.
 
Electronic Miscellaneous Document sales for the month reached $2.9 million in July 2016, representing an 89% jump on the corresponding month last year. 
 
EMD transaction volume is up 290% so far this year, ARC said.
