Are you the new Marco Polo?
The Chinese city of Hangzhou is searching the globe for a modern-day Marco Polo in a promotion which draws on the success of Australia’s Best Job in the World.
Hangzhou is offering a 15-day tour of Hangzhou and a contract worth 40,000 euros to be Hangzhou’s roving global ambassador.
The winner will be required to share with the world the details of his or her Hangzhou stay using social media forums.
Organiser Hangzhou Tourism Commission invited Dr. Liu Yun, vice president of Google and president of Google China, to launch the Be the Modern Marco Polo Experience Programme on four major international social networks: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and YouTube.
More information can be found at Hangzhou’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/HangzhouChina.
Footnote: Tourism Australia has had a massive response to its Best Jobs in the World campaign, with more than 75,000 applications received since the competition launched a week ago.
Tourism Australia is spending A$4 million on an expanded ”Best Job in the World” global campaign with each of the winners to receive a A$100,000 six-month ”salary package”, including living costs.
