Arizona treasures: Preserving the past, embracing the future
Welcome to Arizona – a land of fabulous natural beauty, history, culture and
entertainment. Groups are invited to discover its diversity – from the desert to the mountains and from the bustling cosmopolitan cities to the traditional Native American lands. Throughout Arizona, the past is being preserved for future
generations to embrace.
Behind-the-Scenes Tours at the Arizona State Museum Groups can now go behind the scenes and into the storerooms at the Arizona State Museum in
Tucson to experience the indigenous cultures of Arizona, the greater Southwest and northern Mexico.
Throughout the facility, storerooms contain dynamic exhibits and collections
that are not on display to the public. Groups can now go into these storerooms, choosing from the following themes: Paths of Life Storeroom: this room contains an award-winning permanent exhibition featuring the ten native cultures of Arizona and northern Mexico. Topics discussed are exhibit preparation, native participation and exhibit concepts.
Prehistoric Pot Storeroom: this room features more than 12,000 prehistoric pots of the Hohokam, the Mogollon and ancestral Pueblo cultures.
Ethnographic Storeroom: historic and more contemporary items such as textiles, kachina dolls and smaller materials from all over the world are featured in this storeroom.
Archaeology Lab: Learn about laboratory research procedure – the equally important counterpart to field excavation. See computer models and reconstructions and learn how artifacts are catalogued and used as research tools.
