Armed guards reportedly on SIA flights
Armed marshals are reportedly travelling on certain Singapore Airlines flights – but the carrier is refusing to confirm the issue.
The Straits Times says the carrier is employing marshals carrying stun guns and special “safe” bullets that fragment on impact, and that they have been travelling on selected flights since the middle of August.
The carrier, understandably, is refusing to talk about the matter because of concerns over security, but the BBC News website says the island state’s government has hinted that the story is true.
A Singapore government spokesman reportedly refused to confirm the report in the Straits Times, but told the BBC that “the introduction of air marshals was part of an ongoing process to enhance current security measures”. A law allowing the introduction of armed marshals was introduced by the Singapore parliament on 14 August.
