Arrest made in Heathrow cyberattack
A man was arrested on suspicion of being involved in the airport cyberattack which disrupted operations at Heathrow and other airports in Europe.
The arrest was made in West Sussex of a male in his forties ‘as part of an investigation into a cyber incident impacting Collins Aerospace.’
Collins Aerospace baggage and check-in systems failed last week, caused major flight disruption.
The software is used by multiple airlines.
“Although this arrest is a positive step, the investigation into this incident is in its early stages and remains ongoing,” said Paul Foster, head of the NCA national cyber crime unit.
The man could face charges related to the Computer Misuse Act.
He is currently out on bail.
Collins Aerospace is still having issues with the software, advising airlines that manual workarounds may have to continue for another week.
At Heathrow, some flights are still experiencing delays.
Ramsonware was used to hack the system, according to the EU’s cyber-security agency
Brussels, Dublin and Berlin airports were also disrupted.
“The vast majority of flights at Heathrow are operating as normal, but we encourage passengers to check the status of their flight before travelling to the airport,” Heathrow Airport said.
